I love food of every culture, flavor, and variety. I am a food adventurer, or in other terms, a foodie. I can never get enough of good food. I love exploring foods to the ends of the earth. But here I am talking about Hawaiian food, because I just can’t seem to escape my love for it.
So let me give you a brief summary of places to go if you want Hawaiian food. First is Ono Hawaiian Barbecue in Turlock, CA. This is a chain, but it boasts high-quality food. Not only does their use of all-natural ingredients and recipes make them a healthy choice, but the food also tastes DE-LIC-IOUS and it’s affordable. Are you craving some barbecue chicken or spam musubis? Ono Hawaiian nails these dishes. You really can’t go wrong here.
However, if you want Loco Moco, like me, you’ll have to look elsewhere. After a short trip to Riverbank, CA, I can confirm that L&L Hawaiian Barbecue will satisfy all your deepest darkest desires for this otherworldly dish. Loco Moco is a hamburger patty covered in flavorful gravy on a bed of rice, topped with a fried egg. It is traditionally a Hawaiian breakfast dish, but you don’t need to listen to that. L&L gets Loco Moco right. The flavor of gravy is so rich and each bite is perfection. This is the best Loco Moco I’ve had (not having been to Hawaii). Another flawless dish is their Kahlua Pork and Cabbage, which is so flavorful and tender that it tastes like it was roasting for hours. For a “chain” restaurant, I was blown away.
So please do yourself a favor and try these dishes. I promise you’ll be satisfied. Hawaiian food is the ultimate comfort food: its ingredients are substantial yet natural and its flavors are rich and ever-satisfying. So friends, you’ll only be doing yourselves and your taste buds a favor if you visit these places. You can thank me later.
